How Did You Meet Gopi Krishna? An Interview with Gene Kieffer

2012 Video Interview with Gene Kieffer — Author, Publisher, President and Co-founder with Pandit Gopi Krishna of the Kundalini Research Foundation

Gene Kieffer has been urging science to investigate kundalini since 1970, after a series of encounters introduced him to Pandit Gopi Krishna.  Gene describes having a vivid dream on New Year’s Eve in 1969, in which he crosses a river to meet a man beckoning to him, while hearing a voice booming from overhead, “This is Mr. Krishna.”

In 1970, Sylvia Hellman, also known as Swami Sivananda Radha, received from Leslie Shepard, a documentary filmmaker and the editor of The Encyclopedia of Occultism and Parapsychology, a manuscript of Gopi Krishna’s autobiography, Kundalini-The Evolutionary Energy in Man. Leslie Shepard had assessed the validity of Gopi Krishna’s life story at the request of Stuart & Watkins Publishers. Sylvia sent the manuscript to Gene, with whom she had been corresponding from her ashram in Canada, saying, “Read this if you’ve ever wanted to know what it’s like to be Enlightened.”

Gene read the book and offered to help Gopi Krishna get his books published.  From 1970 to 1984, Gene was in constant contact with Gopi Krishna, helping to inspire, publish and disseminate The Biological Basis of Religion and Genius in 1971, writing countless letters to scholars, editors, leaders and the media over the years, calling for research on kundalini, eventually helping to publish eighteen books for Gopi Krishna. More recently, Gene published Secrets of Kundalini in Panchastavi, an inspired work in Sanskrit dating back a thousand years, with Gopi Krishna’s translation and commentary revealing the key to receiving Divinely inspired knowledge.

Gopi Krishna visited the United States on three occasions. In 1978, and again in 1979, when he was invited by Pir Vilayat Inayat Khan to attend the Sufi Order of the West Conference in New York City. In 1983, Gopi Krishna was invited to address a special meeting at the United Nations with Native American Elders.

Gene describes Gopi Krishna as “a prime example of an ordinary person becoming a certifiable genius” through the awakening of kundalini. Prior to his awakening, Gopi Krishna was the product of a rural education in India, later working as a government clerk with basic writing skills. Once kundalini was awakened, knowledge from Universal Consciousness flooded through his brain and Gopi Krishna produced a body of work, including inspired verse, not possible by an ordinary human brain.

Inspiration, Revelation and works of genius are products of this flow of knowledge from the Ocean of Intelligence, made possible through awakening the channel of kundalini.  Solutions to the burning questions of our day will come through the minds of men and women of genius. “Nothing is more important for the survival of the human race than scientists studying this phenomenon.”

Questions answered in this interview:  What is the awakening of kundalini? How does one get access to this experience of awakening? What is Enlightenment? What are the three biggest obstacles to Enlightenment? Has anyone studied the connection between sexual energy, genius and mental illness? What is the explanation for autistic savants? Does narrow specialization in science work against recognizing the existence of kundalini? Why is the current trend of lightning-fast communication a sign for the worse? What is one of the five most important books in the world that we should be reading over and over, according to Gopi Krishna, a book that has the words of the Divine speaking to us?  Why is it advisable not to meditate until you listen to this interview?

In two parts, total running time 1:44 minutes.
Gene Kieffer is interviewed by Chuck Robison, co-author of The Quantum Conspiracy – A Novel of Possibilities (2008).
